Hornets in Portland, Burton Pest Control

In the Northwest, Bald Faced Hornets are present and somewhat rare. We will see one BFH nest to every 20 yellow jacket nests. Hornets have the same biology as Yellow Jackets but their nesting habits are a little more selective. Hornets will nest mostly in trees and bushes. They can build nests under the eaves of homes, but in 30 years of doing pest control, I have never seen them nest in the ground. Treatment for Hornets is the same as for Yellow Jackets. We kill the nest on the initial visit, then return in 48 hours to take the nest down. Because of the aggressiveness of Hornets, these nests are best treated in the early morning hours just before daybreak
